Description

UN and global reports states that Persons with Disabilities constitute approximately 15 per cent of the population in any country, amounting to more than 700 million persons in Asia and the Pacific. Of these, approximately 470 million are of working age, including 238 million in the Asia Pacific (ILO). ITU's Development Sector (BDT) works in ICT Accessibility to support the advancement of the global disability-inclusive agenda and the development of inclusive digital communities and environment in line with United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It does this through advocacy, raising awareness, building and strengthen building capacity, as well as providing policy and strategy advice to support ITU members effort in implementing the overarching goal of digital inclusion of all people, regardless of age, gender, disability, or location. In support of implementing the regional vision of inclusive digital development that upholds the rights of all PwDs, ITU, with support from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and Art, Australia (DITRDCA), is organising the Accessible Asia and the Pacific-ICT for All: Regional Workshop on ICT Accessibility for policymakers and regulators to support the development of an digitally inclusive Asia and the Pacific region through the development ICT accessibility policies/strategies/plan of action at the national level.
