In 2021, the project “Boosting Digital Skills through the Digital Transformation Centres” was launched as a partnership between ITU and the Government of Norway. This project supports the activities implemented under the DTC Initiative, particularly those aimed at scaling the delivery of digital skills training – and hence digital literacy - in local communities and among marginalized groups.
The first DTC project, implemented from January 2021 to September 2024, provided significant resources for expanding digital skills training in Ghana as well as the global DTC Initiative. Through this partnership, Norway has contributed to training over 22,000 citizens in Ghana alone, including women entrepreneurs, students, marginalized groups, persons with disabilities, including visual impairments and unemployed youth - on basic and intermediate digital skills, fostering social and economic development in underserved areas. The project also equipped community ICT centres, supported coding clubs, and strengthened the capacity of trainers in Ghana.
Other DTCs across the Initiative benefitted from financial support to conduct training activities. Lastly, the contribution of Norway facilitated the growth of the DTCI, resulting in an increased number of partners and DTCs. For more information on the results achieved by the Project as of September 2024, please watch the DTC Project Documentary or check the impact story Revolutionizing Lives with DTC in Ghana.
Under the second phase of the project, ITU has been supporting the DTCs to conduct citizens training and train-the-trainer programmes, as well as outreach activities to raise awareness of digital literacy and the DTC Initiative among communities.
