Bridge the Digital Divide Sierra Leone (BDDSL), the latest centre to have joined the DTC network, conducted an awareness raising campaign and a digital skills train-the-trainer programme in the Kambia district, with funding support from the ITU Regional Office for Africa and ST Foundation.
To develop digital skills in the community, made up mostly of indigenous people, the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), the DTC in the Philippines conducted a train-the-trainer and citizens’ trainings in Barangay Bagahinan, one of the Philippines' Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas.
The ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) of the Philippines conducted a one-month train-the-trainer and citizens training activity for community members of Barangay Baganihan, Marilog District, in Davao City, from 2 to 28 September 2024.
From 15 July to 26 September 2024, the DTC in Zambia conducted a series of training activities across the six (6) localities of Mongu, Mumbwa, Chipata, Chibombo, Kafue and Choma, reaching 243 beneficiaries (56 per cent of which were female) in total.
From 3 to 7 September 2024, the DTC in Ivory Coast, Ecole Multinationale Supérieure des Postes d’Abidjan (EMSP) conducted a citizens training programme for middle school students as part of its “Digital Holidays” activities.
From 8 to 26 July 2024, Concept, the DTC in Senegal, conducted a three-week train-the-trainer programme to roll-out the course on “Introduction to Computer Basics for the Visually impaired” (ICBVI) in Kolda, Senegal.
On 29 July 2024, the Virtual University (VU) of Pakistan organised a one-day training seminar under the theme “Empowering Girls with ICT skills”, with the aim to inspire female high-school students to pursue ICT and STEM education through various learning platforms and guide them in their studies and future careers.
The successful implementation of the ‘Boosting Digital Skills through Digital Transformation Centres’ project delivered through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) – through the ITU Digital Transformation Centre Initiative – has transformed thousands of lives. Women entrepreneurs, for example, learned digital marketing abilities that allowed them to build their businesses online. School children were taught programming languages such as Scratch and Python, sparking an early interest in technology.
In partnership with HP Foundation and the UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), ITU conducted a second train-the-trainer session on the HP-LIFE “Business and ICT skills” global programme for DTC trainers.
On 27 June 2024, a closeout event for the “Boosting digital skills through Digital Transformation Centres” (DTC) Project was held in Kumasi, Ghana. The Project was funded by the Government of Norway and ITU and started in January 2021.
