Level
Levels are meant to help interested participants understand whether a course corresponds to their needs. There are three levels, defined as follows:
- Introductory: a course that provides an overview of a topic or can be taken by any learnerparticipant without having a specialized background on the topic.
- Intermediate: a course that may require some pre-requisite knowledge on the topic. It may be aimed at professionals from other related areas.
- Advanced: a course aimed at professionals working in the area of the training course topic and trying to strengthen their core competencies or acquire some new ones with direct application to their field.
Dates
Courses led by instructors can start/finish at any time and range from 2 days to 8 weeks.
Self-paced courses can start at any time and are kept open.
Duration
The duration refers to the available amount of time (expressed in hours) which is required for participants to complete the course.
Registration type
The ITU Academy has two types of registrations:
Direct registration where participants register and are immediately enrolled into the course. This is used when courses are open to all users and there is no restriction on the maximum number of participants.
Application and selection where participants indicate their interest to participate through an application. The course coordinator then selects the eligible participants and enrols them into the course. This method is useful to limit the number of participants in a course. In such cases, the maximum number of participants should be indicated in the training outline.
Should the course coordinators need specific information in order to select participants, the ITU Academy team can create a customizable application questionnaire for participants to fill upon registration.
In rare occasions a training can be by invitation only. In this case, the course coordinator is responsible for providing the list of participants to the ITU Academy team.
Registration deadline
For online instructor-led courses, registration should be open no later than 3 months prior to the course’s start date and close no later than 7 business days before the start date or 3 weeks if the course has a fee. This is to allow participants time to get familiar with the e-learning environment, meet ITU course coordinators, instructors, and other participants.
For face-to-face or blended courses which require administrative and logistical arrangements (visa, travel), it is recommended that the registration close at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date.
Training fees
All courses organized by ITU are free. Only courses organized under the ITU Academy Training Centres programme can charge a fee.
Target population
Identify the specific demographic characteristics, professional backgrounds, and educational levels of course participants, which align with the course content.
