ITU’s new flagship programme to develop the capacity of ICT professionals across the globe
Starting in 2023, one of ITU’s key training delivery mechanisms, the Centres of Excellence programme will be relaunched as the ITU Academy Training Centres (ATCs) programme, following the outcomes of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2022 where the ITU membership adopted the revised Resolution 73.
The ITU Academy Training Centres programme takes the ITU's capacity development work forward into the future. It will directly contribute to building knowledge and skills among professionals in the ICT field thus enabling them to contribute to, and fully participate, in the digital transformation.
What is the role of an ATC?
ITU Academy Training Centres (ATCs) are internationally recognized institutions offering high-quality training to intermediate and senior personnel, with a focus on the needs of developing countries. ATCs are the core capacity development partners of the ITU, delivering high-quality courses addressing the most important training topics identified by ITU’s membership.
How will the programme work?
The new programme will focus on critical areas of digital development and will reflect the geographical diversity and requirements within ITU's membership.
Up to 12 Centres will be selected initially to begin working in 2023.
The majority of courses will be delivered online through the ITU Academy, but there will also be scope for hybrid and face-to-face courses. Courses may be funded through different business models including, sponsorships, corporate social responsibility programmes, and course fees.
Why should your organisation participate in the ATC programme?
- Work together with the United Nations specialized agency for ICTs and demonstrate your commitment to high-quality digital capacity development for all and the achievement of the SDGs,
- Expand your outreach to ICT professionals, particularly in developing countries,
- Enhance your own expertise and visibility.
ATCs will benefit from ITU's established e-learning platform, supported by a dedicated pedagogical, technical, logistics and customer support team. They will have access to ITU's global network of ICT ministries, regulatory authorities, businesses, and international agencies across the world. Finally, ATCs, will be able to engage with ITU experts and partners, as well as various networking opportunities.
