Explosive growth in demand for the RF spectrum due to liberalized and competitive communications markets requires review of assignment of radio frequencies from a Traditional Spectrum Management method of a âFirst Come and First Servedâ to a Modern Spectrum Management method of a âMarket based Approachâ through spectrum valuation and subsequent auctioning. Unless National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) reviews the assignment of the radio frequencies then the Digital Dividends and other competitive RF spectrum cannot be licensed at market value.
Radio Spectrum is a limited and scarce resource that needs to be efficiently managed and used for communication purposes. There is need for an efficient allocation of spectrum resources and monitoring of usage in order to avoid harmful interference. This workshop will share with participantâs modern ways of efficiently managing and monitoring spectrum use and interference mitigation techniques. Some modern spectrum management and monitoring tools will be highlighted in the workshop.

The online training course on âSpectrum Engineering and IMT2020â is scheduled to be held from from 1st to 19th July 2019. This course is organized jointly by the International Telecommunication Union and the State Radio Monitoring Center (SRMC) Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) China, as part of the Spectrum Management programme under the auspices of the ITU Centres of Excellence for Asia-Pacific region. The training will be delivered in English through the ITU Academy Platform.
The training aims to provide an in-depth understanding of VSAT systems and protocols in satellite communications. In particular, it will introduce VSAT concepts, satellite communications systems, technologies and protocols. It will also allow participants to assess VSAT systems for deployments into cooperate wide area network solutions.
This course covers the core functions of spectrum management and monitoring and is mainly targeted towards the staff of National Spectrum Management agencies. Inclusive of the detailed case studies from China, the course consists of detailed sessions on topics IoTs, Smart cities, Radio-communication monitoring technologies, Digital Broadcasting etc. amongst others.
