Description
This course will focus on Broadband Internet and Future Networks from technology, regulation and business aspects. It will cover the main Internet protocols (IP, TCP, UDP), IP addressing and naming (DHCP, DNS), IPv6 fundamentals and transition from IPv4 to IPv6, Internet networking including unicast and multicast, autonomous systems and BGP routing, main Internet services (Web, Email, FTP), as well as governance of Internet. Further, the course will incorporate broadband Internet access, including fixed broadband access such as copper-based (VDSL, ADSL, DOCSIS over cable) and optical access (G-PON, B-PON, E-PON, and NG-PON), mobile broadband access (3G, 4G, and road to 5G), business aspects as well as regulation of broadband Internet access. Also, it will cover broadband Internet services, including Next Generation Networks (NGN) and its Quality of Service (QoS) framework, IMS-based NGN VoIP and IPTV, Internet of Things (IoT) framework, cloud computing standardization by ITU and cloud service models (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, NaaS, Caas), OTT video streaming (Youtube, Netflix), voice OTT services (Skype, Viber), social networking OTT services (Facebook, Twitter), as well as business and regulation aspects. Finally, the course will incorporate Future Networks (FN) standardization by ITU, including network virtualization, energy saving in FN, Software Defined Networking (SDN), smart traffic, security issues, M2M architectures and services, Smart Ubiquitous Networks, IoT and Smart Sustainable Cities (SSC), as well as business and regulatory challenges in Future Networks.
