Description

Americas Women in Cyber training is a program aimed at empowering women in cyberpolicy and cyberdiplomacy through enhanced capacity development. Over the course of five days, participants engage in a series of sessions designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in various aspects of cybersecurity policy and cyberdiplomacy. The agenda includes sessions such as legal frameworks, normative behavior in cyberspace, as well as a simulation exercises of international cybersecurity decision-making. Additionally, participants will delve into developing national cybersecurity strategies through a tabletop exercises. Inspirational keynotes, peer mentorship sessions and partner sessions further enrich the learning experience, culminating in a closing and feedback session to reflect on insights gained and provide valuable input for future endeavors.

  • Women working in policy (cyber, ICT/digital, peace & security) or digital/cyber diplomacy  

  • Women in technical roles interested in pursuing cyber policy/cyberdiplomacy 

Participants must have a minimum of 2-3 years junior level experience in the relevant field as outlined above 

There are no age restrictions. 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:  

  • Explain concepts, themes and processes on cybersecurity policy and diplomacy to contribute effectively to national and international cybersecurity policymaking  

  • Apply soft skills in negotiations and leadership techniques towards fostering constructive dialogue, building confidence and consensus, in the context of cyber policymaking and cyberdiplomacy. 

  • Examine legal frameworks and normative behavior in cyberspace 

  • Describe the process on developing a national cybersecurity strategy, considering multi-stakeholder collaboration, resource allocation, policy frameworks, and regulatory measures to mitigate cyber threats and enhance resilience. 

The training approach incorporates a blend of self-paced and interactive learning methodologies to effectively achieve the training objectives: 

  • Face-to-Face Simulation and Group Exercise: To strengthen theoretical knowledge and practical skills, face-to-face simulations and group exercises will be conducted. This hands-on approach enables participants to apply their learning in real-world scenarios, promoting active learning and skill development. 

 

  • Mentorship: Mentorship by subject matter experts will be available to provide guidance, support, and personalized feedback throughout the training journey.
