In collaboration with ST Microelectronics Foundation (ST Foundation), ITU organized a virtual train-the-trainer programme on the ST Foundation course "Introduction to Computer Basics (ICB)". The online sessions took place from 5 to 11 March 2026 and aimed to provide DTC trainers and centre managers with relevant practical experience and tools to roll-out the ICB course and tailor its delivery based on the needs of their beneficiaries.
The training brought together a total of 23 instructors (30% female) from 11 DTC countries and was facilitated by ST Foundation master trainers. Sessions were conducted in an interactive approach that combined presentations, group discussions, and reflection exercises. A core component of the discussions focused on providing DTC trainers with tips and tools on how they can further cascade basic computer concepts and digital competencies, especially to learners who have never used a computer or been exposed to digital tools before. Topics covered ranged from foundational digital literacy to productivity tools and how to communicate and collaborate online, as well as online safety and emerging technologies.
One message resonated across every module: the heart of effective digital capacity building lies in strengthening critical thinking. Beyond teaching technical skills, DTC trainers were encouraged to guide their future learners toward navigating the online world with confidence by questioning information, analysing sources, and identifying common pitfalls and misleading content. By embedding critical thinking as a crosscutting skill, this training empowered the DTCs to cultivate more informed, resilient, and discerning digital citizens.
