From 8 to 12 September 2025, the Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA), the DTC in Rwanda, organised a 5-day digital literacy training programme for citizens, with support from ITU and Norway through the project “Boosting digital skills through Digital Transformation Centres”. The training took place simultaneously in the 10 districts of Kirehe, Gisagara, Nyanza, Burera, Kicukiro, Nyamasheke, Ngororero, Ngoma, Nyaruguru, and Gicumbi, and brought together a total of 260 learners between 18 and 35 of age (95% of all participants), of whom 48 per cent were female. These participants were selected among the best performers who had already completed basic digital literacy training offered under RISA’s Digital Ambassadors Programme.
The activity was delivered by one instructor and two facilitators in each site, who covered the Cisco courses on “Digital awareness” and “Introduction to cybersecurity”. Participants were able to deepen their knowledge and skills on online safety practices and learned how to search for, evaluate and utilize online information resources for educational, professional and personal purposes. A significant proportion of respondents (47%) were not employed and were looking for work. It is expected that the training will help improve their employability and enhance their chances of success in the search for employment.
