Innovative Applications for Rural Broadband Community 16th~18th April 2013, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The International Telecommunication Union and the Universiti Utara Malaysia are organising the ITU Asia-Pacific Centres of Excellence training on “Innovative Applications for Rural Broadband Community” from 16th~18th April 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This training aims to:
a) build an understanding on innovative applications for rural broadband community;
b) raise awareness on applications that are being deployed by service providers; and
c) examine proposed solutions to address the underlying concerns.
It will take place at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and is addressed to staff from policy makers, regulators, corporate executives and managers, i.e. middle-level managers, administrators and officials dealing with innovative applications for rural broadband community.

1430-1600: Session 1: Innovative Applications and Broadband Policy
How can innovative applications add value? How can innovative applications contribute to bridging the digital divide, provide equal opportunities to the rural communities, and enhance the quality of life of the rural community? This session will explore the policies adopted by both the public and private sectors to develop and deliver new services to the underserved. This session will highlight the impact these innovations deliver for social goods to the rural communities e.g. access to health, education, environment and government services. It will also examine the benefits of these applications for the services providers e.g. productivity and employment; reducing costs, addressing environmental concerns, and impacts on networking and engaging consumers and users. Practical challenges raised by the deployment and use of the applications will also be discussed.
1630-1800 Session 2: International Experiences on Innovative Applications
This session is targeted at sharing international experiences in the development and deployment of innovative applications with focus on best-practices, success factors, and challenges faced by the member countries.

0900-1030: Session 3: E-Applications
This session seeks to promote the development, availability and adoption of applications that encourage the use of ICT and broadband infrastructure by the rural communities. It seeks to discuss the roles the government and private sectors can play to achieve higher adoption of ICT amongst the rural community. It will highlight the development and use of e-enabled services in the Asia-Pacific region, and identify gaps in current policies that inhibit the introduction of e-Applications and e-Government initiatives and technologies.
1100-1230: Session 4 : Innovative Applications
The session will focus on rural community applications that have been successful. It will explore the issues and lessons learned in the development and deployment of applications, and promote an interchange of ideas between the panelists and participants.

0900-1030: Session 5: Technology options for Innovative Applications usage
What is the appropriate technology behind the rollout of applications in rural areas? This session explores the technologies to support the innovative applications that deliver opportunities and solutions to the rural communities. Panel contributions will consider and highlight the appropriate technologies that can be used to deliver e-services to the community. The benefits, costs and challenges of technological deployment is shared and deliberated.
1100-1130: Session 6: m-Applications
This track seeks the potential and benefits of embracing mobile applications. The highlight of this session examines the development and use of mobile application services in the Asia-Pacific region, and identify gaps in current policies that inhibit the introduction of m- Applications initiatives and technologies.

1300-1430: Session 7: Innovative Applications for Culture
This session aims to further the practice of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration through interdisciplinary processes and experiences that shape contemporary thought and action across technology, applications and culture. The highlight of the session is to discuss the experiences in conservation, interpretation and promotion and management of cultural heritage within country.
